Poetry

“Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words.” – Robert Frost. Poetry is more than just words spilled across a blank page. It is a form of expression. It is an art. At RPC we believe in all rounded students. We feel the need to encourage our learners to become emotionally and mentally balanced. Through poetry, many of our students have been able to constructively manifest any issue they may be facing and deal with these challenges in a safe and supportive environment. The Poetry Club is also seen as a wonderful platform for budding poets, writers, musicians and the like. Here, our students are able to display their remarkable talents, as well as show the world their extreme emotion. The highlight of the Poetry Club is the annual Poetry evening, a night of intense passion in which our young ladies recite, sing, dance and raise funds for their numerous charity projects throughout the year.

Hindu Student’s Association

“Being Indian is not blood as much as it is culture.” – Tony Hillerman. The Hindu Student’s association is a school club that strives to uphold the values of the various Indian cultures, as well as educate and inform people of the beliefs and ideologies of the East.Throughout the year, our students and faculty host numerous prayers in an attempt to unite the Hindu student body and encourage the celebration of one’s culture. The highlight of HSA is the annual Eastern Evening. A night of vibrant energy and colourful entertainment. Here, students from all walks of life are able to participate in dancing, acting and soaking up the variety of Indian culture.

Press Club

“A newspaper is not just for reporting the news as it is, but to make people mad enough to do something about it.” – Mark Twain. The RPC Press Club is one that dedicates itself to striving for the truth as well as ensuring that the news is fun and entertaining rather than dull and mundane, as the youth is so prone to believing it is. Our school newspaper – the RPC Chronicle - to openly communicate and discuss important issues with our student body. Issues which may be eradicated through the input of our learners (Bullying, Stress accumulation, etc). The club encourages students to take interest in local and current affairs that may affect them in their daily lives. It is a gateway to the outside world, in a way that entertaining and informative.

MSA

The Muslim Student’s association is a school club that strives to uphold the values of the Islamic religion/culture. The organization hosts numerous fund raisers throughout the year to help the disadvantaged, be it a cupcake sale for the Syrian refugees or visiting the local orphanage with gifts in hand. Our Muslim students seek to help and assist those less fortunate than themselves, as in accordance with Islamic beliefs. The club comes together during important days on the Muslim calendar to celebrate their heritage and religion. A Salaah room, in which they may perform their daily prayers.

Zulu Club

In the ‘Kingdom of the Zulus’ it seems only fit to have a school club celebrating the Zulu culture. The most fundamental of the Zulu values is that of Ubuntu, at RPC we believe in a sisterhood, our students seek to help and assist each other wherever possible. Kindness and unity is of the utmost importance to our staff and student body. We make an attempt to stand true to the Zulu beliefs and ideologies as, it is a large part of our student body and spirit. The highlight of the Zulu Club is the Zulu Evening in which students from all different cultural backgrounds are able to express themselves and their love of the Zulu culture during a passionate and vibrant night.

Reach For Life

Reach for Life is a school club which seeks to uphold the values of Christianity and educate others about the teachings of Christ. Our students form a tight knit Christian community, one which seeks to support and encourage individuals, using the word of God. The club has had numerous guest speakers throughout the years, many musicians and pastors that spread the message of Christianity through sharing experiences, singing worship songs and giving sermons. The highlight of Reach for Life is the annual Easter Evening in which students perform songs, dances and plays to praise God. It is a night of excitement and worship.

Science Club

The Science Club is a school club that helps educate students in the field of science. It is the ideal place for budding, young scientists, engineers, doctors and even those wishing to pursue a career in teaching science. The club goes over and beyond the set syllabus for high school students and delves into deeper, more interesting facets of the field. Students who are a part of the science club may participate in inter-school competitions testing their knowledge and application of what they have learnt and/or experienced. There is also a science magazine that students may be a part of, the aim of which is to impart knowledge on others.

Toastmasters

Toastmasters is a non-profit organization that helps develop public speaking skills and leadership qualities through practice and feedback. The Toastmasters Youth Leadership Programme is an eight week course available to Grade 11 students. The course seeks to improve our students’ public speaking skills by having them perform speeches, evaluations and impromptus. It boosts your confidence and instills within you valuable leadership qualities. Toastmasters ends with a graduation dinner in which our own students compete against each other for a spot in the inter-school semi-finals. The course leaves you with a profound knowledge of yourself and allows you the communication skills to lead others with confidence.

Choir

“Where words fail, music speaks.” – Hans Christian Anderson. Our student body is undeniably talented and at RPC we look to try and refine these abilities. Our school choir is a place in which raw talent can be moulded into elegant skill. The club also teaches our learners the importance of team work and harmonizing with those around them to produce something great. The choir is run by Mrs P. Reddy, our music teacher, allowing our students to receive the most professional and critical advice to improve their talents. The club is featured at most school events such as Open Day, Easter Evening and Poetry Evening, thus allowing these young ladies to receive a great range of exposure.

Debating

“It is better to debate a question without settling it than to settle a question without debating it.” – Joseph Joubert. Debating refines one’s persuasive abilities and communication skills, it is, if nothing else, an essential and valuable skill for anyone to possess. The application of knowledge to solve a pressing issue is the crux of debating. The sport introduce our students to dire problems our society is currently facing and helps them decipher ways in which to stop or wholly eradicate these matters. The club encourages students to solve/argue problems logically and rationally while remaining diplomatic. Students who are interested in debating participate in the inter-school Durban Coastal Debating League
